Goodwork started with a simple observation: there are a lot of people in and around Black Mountain doing serious professional work from a laptop on the kitchen counter, or in the corner of a coffee shop with one eye on their bag.

We had a building downtown with good rooms in it. So we’re opening most of it up — five private offices, a shared back room with dedicated and flex desks, and a conference room for the meetings you’d rather not host at your dining table.

That’s the whole idea. No app-based community platform, no networking mixers you feel obligated to attend. A door that locks, fast internet, coffee that’s actually good, and downtown out the front door.

Where we are: 301 W State Street, in the middle of downtown Black Mountain. Walk to lunch, walk to coffee, walk to the post office.

Who runs it: Goodwork is a Goodman Holding Group venture. Nate Goodman is a CPA whose own firm sits in the same building — which means the person you email about a leaky radiator is the person who owns the place.
